Akamai Kids

A Resilience-Based Mental Health Curriculum For Hawaii Kids

Akamai Kids strengthens student well-being and resilience by helping them understand how their experience of life is created from the inside out.

Our role as adults shifts from trying to “build” something in children to helping them recognize and trust what has been there all along.

The name Akamai reflects the Wisdom (Naʻauao), Aloha, Kindness, and Inner Strengths we believe already exist within every child.

Mental health is self-restoring when children understand how their minds work.

Just as every child is born with a body designed to maintain physical health, they are also born with an innate capacity for mental health - an inner resilience and well-being that naturally restores when understood.

Who We Are

We are a group of Hawai'i educators and therapists who see a pattern:

Children are struggling-not because something is wrong with them, but because no one teaches them how their minds work.

Akamai Kids gives children simple, clear language to understand how their experience of life is created. They discover that they already have the capacity for well-being within them.

The Problem
Many young people struggle with emotions and behavior—not because they’re broken, but because they don’t understand what’s creating their feelings in the first place.

So teachers and parents try to:

  • manage behavior

  • fix emotions

  • control outcomes

without ever addressing what’s actually creating them.

The Missing Piece

Most people grow up trying to change their circumstances to feel better, without realizing their experience is created from within.

We often innocently blame the outside environment — family situations, the behavior of others, or friendships for how we feel — without examining the internal processes shaping our experience. Children come to believe their feelings are controlled by the world around them.

However, while circumstances matter, our moment-to-moment experience is shaped from within — by how the mind interprets those experiences in real time. When students begin to understand this, they gain a new sense of perspective and emotional freedom.

The Akamai Kids Approach

We help students understand their innate well-being.

Every child is born inherently whole, with an innate
intelligence that supports their well-being.

Thought is like the steering wheel of our experience,
quitly shaping how we feel moment to moment.
It happens so quickly that we rarely notice it.

As students begin to notice their thinking, their relationship to their
experience begins to change. They start to see that feelings are temporary
and created from within, not by the world around them.

When children see this early in life, something shifts. They stop looking outward for relief and begin to access the resilience already inside them.

Rather than teaching students to depend only on outside solutions, Akamai Kids helps children learn how to access the clarity and resilience already within them.

Vision

A world where every child understands their own mind, feels connected to their innate well-being, and grows up grounded in aloha, connection, and inner wisdom.

Mission

To help children understand their minds and access the resilience and well-being already within them.
